RAIDEN + METH – “”THE BOB NUDD PROJECT” / “THE JOHN WILSON PROJECT” – BACKLASH 006
Nice diversion of sounds for Backlash’s sixth outing. We’ve seen Raiden infusing the dubwise/tribal sounds into his productions, including the birth of his Voodoo Music imprint, but alongside Meth, Raiden marries his tech-fueled fury with the percussion-heavy funk on “The Bob Nudd Project”. Driven by a bouncy melody, this track is low on fancy bells and whistles, and heavy on rich kicks and guttural basstones. One to keep the crowd hype, indeed. On the flip, Raiden & Meth let the bass sing, as a hypnotic line comes front and center on this one. The dubbed out synths and effects slither in and out of the mix, added a sense of terror or doom to the proceedings, crafting a truly understated black horse journey. The odd linchpin in terms of the titles is that both Bob Nudd and John Wilson are fisherman, so maybe Raiden & Meth are envisioning these two falling off the boat, getting attacked by piranha, and these tracks play during their demise? Or did we just go a little too dark on ya…
